Most guidance treats the SRRV bank as a formality: pick any name on the list, send the money, move on. The deposit is a formality only after you have chosen well. The choice itself is a real decision, and it sits one layer beneath the wire mechanics.
The rule that drives the choice is the Letter of Introduction. Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) is the government bank on the accredited list, and it takes no Letter of Introduction to open the deposit account. The accredited private banks require that letter first, which means a step, an email to PRA, and a wait, before the account even exists. That single difference reorders your week.
The branch, not just the bank
The accreditation attaches to specific branches, not to a bank's logo everywhere it appears. Some accredited banks qualify across all branches; others qualify at named branches only. BDO (Pacific Star and Cebu IT Park branches only) is the cautionary example: the bank is accredited, but only at the listed branches, so a deposit opened at the wrong one of its locations is a deposit at the wrong place. Confirm the exact branch against PRA's current list before anything moves.
There is a second, quieter point that saves people grief later. The SRRV deposit account is not your everyday account. It holds the visa deposit, it is tied to your application, and it is not where you run your grocery money and your utility bills. Set up daily banking separately, and let the deposit account do its one job: hold the money PRA needs to see, cleanly, in your name.
How we make the call
We weigh the bank choice against your actual itinerary: how soon you land, whether the Letter of Introduction step fits your calendar, which accredited branches sit near where you will be, and how the deposit account will be returned on visa cancellation per PRA rules. To request the letter when a private bank is the better fit, the email is srrvwalkin@pra.gov.ph. The right bank is the one that matches your timeline, not the one whose branch happened to be nearest the airport.
