A long-term residence option

The Special Resident Retiree’s Visa is issued by the Bureau of Immigration under the Philippine Retirement Authority program. PRA describes multiple-entry privileges and indefinite stay, subject to the program’s continuing conditions. It is not citizenship.

Choose the appropriate route

Classic accepts pensioners and non-pensioners from age 40, with age-based deposits. Courtesy has special categories and a separate former-Filipino route.

PRA publishes a retired-military Courtesy category. Its August 2025 checklist places a $1,000 monthly pension or similar-benefit requirement under ages 40–49, while also listing a non-pensioner deposit tier. The overview uses different category wording. Separated service, VA benefits and the applicable age-specific requirements need written PRA confirmation. Income alone does not establish eligibility.

Know where the money goes

The deposit is separate from government and service fees. Published instructions describe an applicant account at accredited private banks; the DBP instructions name PRA as beneficiary. Obtain current, bank-specific instructions from PRA before remitting. Do not copy bank details from a blog or assume one account structure applies everywhere.

Government application and annual fees are distinct from the visa deposit. Any private service engagement adds a separate written scope and service price.

Read benefits in context

PRA lists exemptions from BI annual reporting, ACR I-Card and certain travel, work or study requirements, alongside other program benefits. Check the applicable conditions for a planned activity before relying on an exemption. Philippine tax treatment does not remove US filing and reporting obligations; applicable thresholds and personal circumstances still matter.

Prepare for a complete application

PRA’s August 2025 Expanded SRRV Program publishes 30–45 working days from submission of complete documents. Document preparation comes before that window. PRA requires physical presence throughout application processing. Corrections, holidays and scheduling can extend the stay.

The medical may be completed in the Philippines or abroad using the PRA form. A medical completed abroad requires apostille or Philippine consular authentication, and an English translation if needed. The certificate must still be within its six-month validity window when submitted.
