Retired. Redeployed.Freedom
You earned lifetime benefits. Here is how they travel with you to the Philippines, and which SRRV route actually fits.
The short answer
Does VA disability compensation qualify for the SRRV Courtesy rate?
It can. VA disability compensation is lifetime federal income paid monthly, and PRA accepts the benefit verification letter as proof, so a disabled veteran can fit the Courtesy track without ever having been on the retired rolls. A Permanent and Total or otherwise protected rating is the cleanest proof, and PRA decides case by case.
Situation brief
- The income that counts
- VA disability compensation, paid monthly, for life.
- The gate
- $1,000 a month, currently received.
- Courtesy deposit
- $1,500 at 50 and older.
- Cleanest proof
- A Permanent and Total or otherwise protected rating.
Where disabled veterans actually fit
Most SRRV (Special Resident Retiree’s Visa) marketing lumps every veteran together. The rules do not. The line that matters is not whether you retired; it is whether qualifying lifetime income is paying now, and the difference is worth tens of thousands of dollars in deposit requirements.
At or above the gate: Courtesy
Drawing $1,000 or more, monthly, for life
If your VA disability compensation, retired pay, or both add up to $1,000 per month of lifetime income currently being received, your DD-214 plus the benefit letters may open SRRV Courtesy: $1,500 deposit at 50 and older, $3,000 at 40 to 49. Retired or separated makes no difference here.
Below the gate: Classic
Under the gate, or pension not yet paying
Below $1,000 per month, SRRV Classic applies. Lifetime income of $800 per month single ($1,000 with dependents) supports the pensioner deposits: $15,000 at 50 and older, $25,000 at 40 to 49, instead of the non-pensioner $30,000 or $50,000. Guard and Reserve retirees waiting on age-60 pay sit here until the payments start.
CRDP and CRSC recipients, veterans stacking retired pay with VA compensation, and ratings still subject to reexamination are screened case by case. The field note on where CRDP and CRSC fit the Courtesy gate walks the concurrent-pay math.

Your rating, in PRA terms
The Courtesy gate is $1,000 per month of lifetime income, currently being received. A 100 percent schedular or P&T rating clears it on its own at current VA rates, and many mid-range ratings do as well. Below the gate, the Classic pensioner thresholds of $800 single or $1,000 with dependents still work in your favor.
One refinement worth knowing: PRA’s checklist says lifetime pension, and compensation at a rating still subject to reexamination is technically reducible. In practice PRA offices accept standard VA benefit verification letters, but the bulletproof file shows a Permanent and Total or otherwise protected rating. We verify your exact award against the thresholds and assemble the letters in the format PRA expects, apostilles included. PRA decides what proof it accepts, and our job is to give them no reason to say no.
What follows you to the Philippines
Compensation, by direct deposit
VA disability compensation is payable abroad and continues by direct deposit while you live in the Philippines.
Manila VA Outpatient Clinic
The only VA healthcare facility outside the United States, in Manila.
The Foreign Medical Program
Reimbursement coverage for VA-rated, service-connected care abroad. The field note on how the Foreign Medical Program reimburses covers filing.
Plan around the official programs
VA programs follow their own rules. None of this is a GoSRRV service, and we help you plan around the official programs rather than sell you a promise.
Practical life notes
Hospital access belongs on your city-selection shortlist. Metro Manila and Cebu offer the deepest specialist coverage; smaller islands trade convenience for distance. Our where-to-live guide weighs this honestly.
Bring complete medical records, and plan medication continuity before you fly: which prescriptions transfer, which need a local physician, and which you should carry in documented supply.
If you scout the Philippines first, watch the calendar: more than 90 days in-country before filing triggers the NBI clearance step. The document checklist covers it.

SRRV Courtesy qualification is determined by the Philippine Retirement Authority on the documents. Many US military retirees may qualify; others fit SRRV Classic. We screen both routes before you commit, and we will tell you plainly if the SRRV is not your best option.
