The common belief is that retired status is the key to the SRRV Courtesy military track, that once you are retired the door is open. The door is not opened by status. It is opened by income, and specifically by income you are receiving now.
The rule, in one line. The Courtesy military gate turns on a lifetime pension of at least $1,000 per month that you are currently receiving. The operative words are currently receiving. A pension that has been awarded but has not started paying does not yet count, however official the letter announcing it looks.
Where CRDP and CRSC fit
This is where two acronyms enter that veterans know well. Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay, CRDP, restores retired pay that would otherwise be offset against VA disability for qualifying retirees, so it lands as an actual monthly stream. Combat-Related Special Compensation, CRSC, is a separate monthly payment for combat-related disabilities. Both are money arriving in your account on a schedule, which is exactly the kind of currently-received income the gate is asking about. We do not quote a dollar figure for either here, because the amounts are individual; the point is that they are real, recurring, and countable toward what you currently receive.
Set that against a deferred pension. A Guard or Reserve retiree may hold a fully earned pension that does not begin paying until age 60. Earned is not the same as received. Until those payments start, that pension sits on the wrong side of the gate, no matter how many years of service stand behind it. The same person can move from not-yet to clearly-qualifying on the day the first payment lands.
What screening actually does here
Our job is to read your income as PRA reads it, today. We total what is genuinely landing each month, retired pay, VA disability compensation, CRDP, CRSC where it applies, and test it against the $1,000 threshold, then map the proof for each stream. If you clear the gate, we show you the cleanest documentary path. If a deferred pension leaves you short for now, we tell you plainly and look at SRRV Classic instead. PRA determines qualification case by case, on the documents.
